Awaken for the Arts Special Event
Vocal superstars Rodrick Dixon and Alfreda Burke will share their operatic and Broadway talent to benefit the College of Charleston School of the Arts
Audiences will enjoy a diverse performance ranging from the quintessential works of Puccini and Verdi to the finger-snapping showtunes of Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The night will include some local flavor in a revival of popular songs from DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Acclaimed music faculty from the College will join tenor Rodrick Dixon and soprano Alfreda Burke on stage throughout the evening.

Prior to the event PBS will offer a preview of Dixon and Burke during a special airing of Hallelujah Broadway on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. The show was originally recorded in Central Prague for American Public Television in 2010 (EMI/Manhattan Records). It is a feast of inspired vocal performances set in the Baroque magnificence of the Cathedral of St. Simon and St. Jude, home to the Prague Symphony.
