The Department of Art History houses the College of Charleston’s leading and nationally recognized programs in art history and historic preservation. It is one of the largest independent art history departments in the Southeast, and among the few in the nation that specialize in undergraduate education.
The professors in this department represent a broad spectrum of expertise and research interests, from ancient Asian art to modern American masters. Like their colleagues elsewhere in the School of the Arts, they specialize as teacher-scholars, often integrating students into their individual research projects.
In addition, the faculty members in this department have developed strong relationships with the professionals at Charleston’s many museums, historical societies, preservation projects and community arts and preservation organizations. These connections can yield valuable internship opportunities for students.
